Synopsis

This book addresses relevant database topics and promotes discussions on the fundamentals, trends, and challenges related to the topic addressed. Chapter 1 discusses visualization and processing techniques of data extracted from social networks, structured in a network form, especially considering the temporal perspective, and presents the practice of using these techniques through the analysis of three case studies with real data. Chapter 2 discusses prediction modeling and knowledge discovery techniques, and their influence on a specific domain: sports-related data. The chapter also discusses the role of predictability and randomness in sports. Chapter 3 describes the basics of deep learning, illustrates, by way of examples, how to implement deep networking and the key challenges in training such a network, and presents the theoretical foundations behind the use of deep modeling, and its limitations.
